Best For: Higher Education
As institutions look to grow enrollment and diversify their incoming class, they typically find themselves examining their effectiveness in recruiting their primary, secondary, tertiary, and international markets. For many institutions, this analysis has historically been focused solely on the recruitment of incoming first-year students. However, as a result of the increase in community college enrollment, paired with shifting demographics that will decrease high school graduation numbers across the country, it has become imperative that transfer students need to be a part of the enrollment strategies at 4-year institutions. While many institutions have always recruited, and for some relied upon, transfer students to shape their incoming class, some institutions (especially highly-selective private institutions) are just now exploring this often overlooked population.
Please join Nicholas DeFalco as he provides an analysis of why transfer students matter and how they can help your institution thrive in a competitive marketplace. By first identifying barriers to entry and common issues transfer students face throughout their transition, we are able to better understand the “plight of the transfer student.” Once we have developed this baseline, we then can move on to discover specific ways to “woo” transfer students throughout their college search. While not one strategy is a silver bullet to increase yield among transfers, a comprehensive approach should help the participant develop an action plan on how to best leverage best practices to increase transfer student success on their campus.
