Contemporary academic leaders face a barrage of challenges (e.g., financial, strategic, human resource) while attempting to advance their academic unit. Compounding the situation is the fact that many academic leaders enter these challenging positions with little or no preparation. However, effective management practices can be learned and deployed in a way that facilitates unit success and helps make the academic leader's role both effective and rewarding.
Please join Dr. Jim Weese as he helps you understand and apply effective strategies for leading academic departments. He will introduce you to management best practices (i.e., building the team, establishing a strategic direction, organizing and inspiring colleagues, measuring and celebrating progress, and ensuring sustainability and succession planning) and integrate his rich experience in order to help you run your department more smoothly.
