Public School Construction Projects: Legal Issues to Consider

Public school construction projects are often an exciting time for the entire school community, regardless of whether it is a small improvement or an entirely new building. However, such projects can be overwhelming to district officials because of the various steps, parties, and legal documents involved. As projects become more complex and greater risk is taken on by the parties, it is crucial that school district officials understand the school’s role and potential liability in construction projects. Most school construction projects use agreements from the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and it is important for school officials to recognize that there may need to be revisions to such agreements in order to protect the district.

Please join Richard Verstegen for this discussion regarding the various school construction types and phases, contract review, and negotiating changes to such contracts.
