The Role and Responsibilities of the Title IX Coordinator in Higher Education

All colleges and universities receiving federal funds must comply with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX), including the requirement to designate at least one employee to coordinate efforts to comply and carry out the responsibilities under Title IX. Any employee assigned with these responsibilities, however, quickly finds out that this is no small undertaking. The Title IX Coordinator must not only have an in-depth knowledge of Title IX and other state and federal non-discrimination laws, but also must implement policies and procedures, ensure that various notice requirements are met, handle any investigations on complaints, and train staff regarding these requirements. With the increased attention to these issues faced by colleges and universities, it is extremely important for Title IX Coordinators to get these requirements correct.

Please join Richard Verstegen for this important discussion regarding the responsibilities for Title IX Coordinators on campus, which will help employees build solid foundations to ensure that their students are protected and their schools avoid liability.

Just a sampling of what this webinar will cover:

  • Understand the types of employees who should serve as Title IX Coordinators and whether to assign more than one person to this important role
  • Learn why adopting and distributing clear grievance procedures related to discrimination on the basis of sex is so important
  • Review best practices related to notices, training, investigations, and institutional monitoring, to ensure that such practices are efficient and lawful, in all areas affected by Title IX
  • Understand the various other laws that Title IX Coordinators must also consider in their roles, including the Clery Act and the Campus SaVE Act Amendments.
  • AND MUCH MORE!
